Colour, colour, what colour…

I thought happiness was
that ball of deep burning orange in
the mauve sky;

Or surely this blinding white
pouring over the fence
with it’s cool fragrant bursts;

The path leading across fields,
I knew it was that particular winning shade
of periwinkle.

But now I am convinced it is yellow.

Temple of Gold.

The even star lit
upon the tree
and what fire
poured out
of those leaves
tearing the sky
into mad shreds
of yellow and ochre;
It dripped
from their edges
and dizzy with love
and longing
I stood underneath
gathering it all to me
greedily;
How my palms burned
and my face.
Overcome, I leaned
on its bark
and felt it tremble
or maybe it was me.
I was beyond the point
of knowing.

Sunburst

paintings 022

Flowers, red and yellow, sat on the window sill in a blue vase. Only a handful of them left from a bunch, a token of appreciation, of gratitude. A sunburst of colour on a cloudy day. Sometimes, the simplest of things can have the power to uplift one’s soul.

Dreams.

If I could lift that corner of sunlight
that slants
that cuts a dashing swath of burnt yellow across the room,
I would swirl it around without a care
and toss it
across my shoulders and breathe in its warmth,
its musty breath redolent with time without end.

I would huddle in its glorious arms,
sinews melting,

and dream of fields under a sumer sky.

Oranges and lemons, four for a penny…
