Motion and Thought

dispersing thoughts
like notes
upon the beat of a drum
scattered, tumultuous.

dispersing thoughts
drifting bereft
searching for familiarity,
a foothold,
but slipping
through their clinging shadows.

Empty chaos within,
raucous chaos without,
the two without a link,
I am
but a stranger in my shoes.

But then,
what’s this?
A standstill.
A split second,
a quiet moment,
a deep breath,
eyes turned inward,

And upon a rush
their dim echoes
burst against my chest
and upon that echo
a question:
Where have you been?
